The series Capas Rug is aimed at creating and using light, harmonic and shadow layers for producing extreme depth and is also easy to adapt to any setting due to the wide range of chromatic colours. A point of departure for the Capas series is Hahna’s notion of shadows that are never black or white, but full of colour and geometry. The designs were built to develop a simple and lightweight robin with a casual feel and complex depth usage. Nanimarquina and Hahn explored the details of the Kilim weaving techniques in their quest for new ways of spreading colour in order to achieve this goal. After several months of research, Nanimarquina and Hahn developed a new kind of loose Kilim structure that allows the warp and web colour to be mixed. Warp in Kilim is typically not noticeable. New tonalities surface by describing a particular density of warp, which offers a visual texture in which colours interconnect along with the mould. The unique texture produces an impression of darkness and light and great depth without getting hard. Like the layers of light and shadow in the atmosphere. We have exposed the new colours and the textures by loosening the fibres and using the thicker filament, celebrating a deepening and increased tones.
