Bocci

Bocci is a design and manufacturing company based in Vancouver and Berlin. Founded in 2005 under the creative directorship of Omer Arbel, Bocci is dedicated to creating a lateral and open-ended relationship between creative direction and craft. Their primary focal point is mouth-blown glass lighting, with a penchant for authentic hand-craftsmanship.

Based between Vancouver and Berlin, Omer Arbel cultivates a fluid position, between the fields of architecture, sculpture, invention and design. Focal themes of his work include the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials and the exploration of light as a medium.

The company launched with one lighting design, ‘14’, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Bocci’s growing portfolio of sculptural lighting is developed, engineered and fabricated in-house, through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality and scale.

Scale is a key element in the work Bocci does – it is rare to see a single Bocci pendant on its own. Often their lights are arranged in breathtaking chandeliers or intricate arrangements – but this in no way means they don’t stand on their own. Bocci lights are a residual example of excessive attention to fine detail, and nowhere is this more apparent in the product itself. Every item is unique due to the handcrafted production process.
