HAY was founded in 2002 with the ambition to create contemporary furniture with an eye for modern living and sophisticated industrial manufacturing. That remains our ambition today. Through our commitment to the design and production of furniture and accessories with an international appeal we strive to make good design accessible to the largest possible audience. We are inspired by the stable structures of architecture and the dynamics of fashion, which we seek to combine in durable quality products that provide added value for the user. HAY’s continued vision is to create straightforward, functional and aesthetic design in cooperation with some of the world’s most talented, curious and courageous designers. The most essential tools for today’s kitchen curated by Mette Hay together with the Danish chef Frederik Bille Brahe. The HAY Kitchen Market launched globally at the MoMA Design Store Soho on 22 august 2017. Following the exciting launch of the HAY Mini Market, Mette Hay was interested in exploring everyday objects further with products for the kitchen. The 2016 Milan Design Week brought Mette Hay and Frederik Bille Brahe together to create a temporary café for the HAY exhibition. The successful collaboration resulted in Mette enlisting Frederik's help to handpick some of the most vital tools and essential pieces for the everyday kitchen. Together, Mette and Frederik combined their diverse backgrounds and shared passion for design to create a collection based on function that is relevant for people in all stages of life. Many products are found from around the world, like handmade glasses from Morocco, water pitchers from India, sponges from Japan and soap from France, but everything has been reconsidered or reinvented for the collection. Inspired to create a collection where all the products work together, Mette and Frederik, selected a diverse range of textures, colours and price ranges to make it easy to select a few items or the whole range while still looking beautiful and distinct. The collection includes everyday kitchenware like pots, pans, graters, cutting boards and peelers, as well as plates, cups, glasses and cutlery. ANDERSSEN & VOLL are one of HAY’s biggest designers. Formerly of Norway Says, Torbjørn Anderssen (b. 1976) and Espen Voll (b. 1965) are Norwegian designers who have been at the vanguard of the Scandinavian design scene since the start of the new millennium. Both are from creative backgrounds and studied at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design and the Oslo National Academy of Art respectively. Together they founded Anderssen & Voll in 2009 to work on product, furniture, textile and lighting design projects. Open minded in their approach, they are particularly informed by the varying cultural, geographical and economic conditions to be found across Europe. For HAY, they have designed Ori Salt & Pepper Grinder and Elephant Table. As well as RONAN & ERWAN BOUROULLEC. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec the Paris based design brothers from Brittany have been working together since 1998. Ronan is a graduate of the École supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Paris and Erwan attended the École nationale supérieure des Arts in Cergy before starting their own studio. Together Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have transformed the design industry and offered new perspectives of materiality and purpose. HEE WELLING is another big name, designing for HAY. Hee Welling is a Danish furniture designer who founded his own studio in Copenhagen in 2003. Welling has received a number of design awards, including the Bo Bedre Award (Denmark), Good Design Award (USA) and has been nominated as the Danish designer of the year in both 2013 and 2014. Welling is the son of a cabinetmaker, and his fascination with production techniques, materials and machinery was fired as a child. He went on to study at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and received his master’s degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (where he is also now a design tutor). His design ethos is centred around the idea of creating technically accomplished products that can reach a wide audience. His work is characterised by a great sense of proportion and quietly elegant looks. For HAY, Welling has designed the About A series and the Hee Chair, Lounge Chair and Bar Stool.
